Liberal Arts colleges were different than other colleges. Instead of focusing on a certain major they gave the student the chance to take a math course, a science course, and any other courses they would want to take. Many of these universities were run by the church. Some universities were founded by kings. Young men would move on to universities when they completed their study of grammar, logic, arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy.
Some universities were founded from preexisting schools. This would only happen if a school was deemed to become a primary site for higher education.
